I do find bound feet exotic and beautiful with shoes on. But the idea of doing it, the pain and the fact that it was not only for beauty and to find a good husband, but to tie the girl to their natal and husbands home because they cannot travel far. If you put the things Americans are doing to themselves againest China's culture I'm sure we still have a long way to go til people relize that severe unnatural deformities are not beauty.

I am really happy foot binding has stopped. it's like with the decreasing popularity of corsets or even today's high heels.. it saddens me thinking about what pain people went through for "beauty"--the definition of that still remains clear today.

It's true, they start when they're like 6. The smaller the feet, the prettier they look. And they have a better chance of getting a husband :)
